***Construction Worker Injured in Accident on Beech***

**The Union Leader has now changed the information for this story and is saying that this was an accident, NOT an assault. They are still looking into how everything happened.

Two construction workers were on Beech Street when a fight broke out. A witness saw them fighting from his apartment window and called 911. He then saw one of the construction workers hit the other one in the head with an ice chopper (not a sledgehammer as previously reported on the scanner). The witness would not talk to the Union Leader saying that he preferred to speak with the detective instead.

Police and detectives were on the scene for a few hours cleaning up the scene and collecting evidence. This photo from Pat Grossman of the Union Leader shows a blood-stained sidewalk and piece of plywood against a building in an alleyway next to 449 Beech.

The man that was assaulted had a severe laceration on his head and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The investigation is on-going and more information will be released as it is obtained.
