***Market Basket Shutdown Imminent?***

After the firing of beloved CEO Arthur T Demoulas the employees of the Market Basket corporation are retaliating.

A memo was sent to Jim Gooch and Felicia Thornton stating that they would not work for anyone but Mr. Demoulas. They requested a meeting in Tewksbury, MA at 4:30pm today to discuss their demands which are as follows:

- Arthur Demoulas be fully reinstated to his position and given all privileges and power back.
- A group meeting must be held on or before July 17th, 2014 at 4:30pm
- No answer to these demands will be taken as a No

Should these demands not be met a walk-out is entirely possible. There are 72 different managers in the New England area that support this decision as well as many of the employees in the corporate office. The store manager of the Manchester Market Basket, Peter Gulezian, says that if this happens they will only have enough perishable products for three days and then after that the shelves will be empty for anything that is perishable. All deliveries and orders would be disrupted and eventually the stores will run out of product.

One of the biggest reasons that employees are so up in arms about this situation is due to the fact that they feel it is motivated by greed. They feel that the employees are not going to be treated as well as they had. The prices will go up. Customer service will falter.

Gulezian said that he has spoken with Arthur Demoulas many times. Demoulas used to stop into the store and make a point to speak with the employees and get to know them. Gooch and Thornton have been to the Manchester store several times but Gulezian has never actually met with them.

The Boston Herald ran an article this morning which stated the the new CEOs have said that they do not have the ability to rehire Demoulas.

Could this be the end of People of Market Basket? I for one would be very upset if the Market Baskets closed as I do not shop anywhere else now.

  1. How could they NOT have the ability to re-hire him, but have the ability to fire him?

  2. Hiring and firing at a top corporate level like his would typically be done by the Board of Directors. The BOD is probably also who put Gooch and Thornton as the new appointed co-CEO's so no they would not have the ability to re-hire him as that power lies exclusively with the Board.

  4. He got fired because of greed!!! ATD has always been there for his employees and customers, but his greedy cousin, ASD, wants all the profits in his pocket instead of in the pockets of the employees and the savings passed onto the customer...MB was a DEBT FREE business, but thats all about to change if we let it!!!!!!!

    1. I don't know which Market Basket you are going to but all of the ones I have been to have been awesome. The cashiers are always friendly, the stockers smile and say hi, even the managers walk around sometimes and speak to people.

  6. Welcome to the world where the bosses make the directives and not the employees. They could have unionized years ago and would have been assured of their benefits.

    1. and we should remind them of that. If not for the customers their paycheck evaporates.... I use to work retail and it's the 1st thing I taught those I trained. Also taught them how to handle jerk-offs with a smile :-)

Also plaster their photos on the web and show the public who these son of a bitches are. They are all greedy bastards and this doesn't just hurt business its hurting people that are struggling to feed their families. I am so outraged.
