When the lights go down in the city...

Hey everyone!

Thanks for following my alert page. I will be making a blog as well that will summarize all of the happenings through the day that you may have missed since Facebook likes to pick and choose what we all get to see.

First I will tell you a bit about why I started this page:

I am a photographer with an interest in photojournalism. I keep my scanner on so that if I hear of something going on, I can run out and photograph it. I want to gain all of the experience that I possibly can. I have photographed a few fires, a few standoffs, and some events around town. I have had photos published on WMUR and shown in their newscasts through the day. My friends know that I have my scanner on almost all the time so they always ask me what is going on when they see emergency vehicles near their house. And then came ManchVegas Alerts.

I was really shocked to see that over the course of three days I had gained 86 followers. That was more than I expected to see. It is in part thanks to those of you who have shared the page and gotten your friends to join. My hope is that if there is something going on in your area you can come to the page and see what is happening. It can also be used to see what areas of the city or highway you should avoid due to accidents or weather related slowness.

There is a lot going on in our city that the news sites never tell us about so that is where I would like to fill in.

Tuesday, February 4th:

The day started out slow but then within an hour of each other there were three overdose calls, 2 of them heroin.

The day also brought an attempted burglary, a few minor car accidents, and a person shooting out a window with a BB gun.

Wednesday, February 5th:

Heavy snow began in the morning on Wednesday causing a hassle for many in the state. There were not very many accidents in the morning however. People seemed to be staying off of the roadways and driving safely if they were on the roads. Schools all over the state were closed.

A few minor accidents happened through the day but overall the highways remained clear. It was slow going as the road conditions were not favorable. The state reduced the speed limit to 45. One larger accident happened on 293 South right below the Bridge Street bridge, five cars were involved, but there were no injuries and the scene was cleared pretty quickly. A couple of hit and runs on parked cars also happened.

There was a cocaine overdose and a heroin overdose where a 30 year old male was found unconscious and not breathing, CPR was being performed at the scene.

A fight between two men broke out in the Rite Aid on McGregor Street, one was bleeding from a head injury and ended up in an out of consciousness.

One of the more tense stories of the day was an 18 year old woman running around on Spruce Street with a butcher knife held to her throat. The Massachusetts woman was suicidal and kept telling the officers on the scene that she was going to kill herself. She also tried to provoke them to shoot her. All of the officer kept a cool head and were able to get her to turn over the knife and head to the hospital for a psych evaluation.

A person at an ATM at Citizen's Bank on Elm Street was robbed after she withdrew money. The suspect jumped into the backseat of her car and said that he had a weapon. He stole her money and her phone and then took off. The suspect was described as a Middle Eastern male, skinny, with a jean jacket and dark hoodie on underneath.

A young man at SNHU was brandishing a knife and acting out of it. He found out that the PD was on their way and became excited because he thought they were coming to give him a ride. He was brought in for a psych evaluation.

There were a few assaults (mostly drunken men beating on their girlfriends), the state released its estimate of how much revenue legalized pot would bring in and former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer.

Thursday, February 6th:

The day started with an overdose on prescription pills, man was flagged as suicidal and liked to cut himself. There were three other overdose calls throughout the city to round out the day.

There were a few minor motor vehicle accidents with no injuries reported, but nothing too serious.

At the end of the night the police were looking for a male suspect on the West Side. I hadn't caught what he was a suspect for but he had a small history with crimes, had been a witness in a first degree murder case.

Shortly after three males, 2 adults and 1 juvenile were busted for possession with intent to sell.

Friday, February 7th:

That brings us to today. The fire department started out with prank calls from someone on Wilson Street from a 911 only phone. More calls came in reporting crimes all over the city, apparently that had happened the day before as well. The sheriff's office called in and identified the person as they already had a case building against him. The final call that he got to make was to report a shooting in the area of Wilson.

Two men, one tall black male and a shorter Hispanic male, robbed a store with a knife. It is unclear which store was robbed. The store manager chased after them, spotted one of them throw the knife in the woods, and then the police came in and tracked the two down, arresting both. The knife was then found in the woods.

A little later in the day a male robbed the Crosstown Variety (no big shocker there) and then proceeded to head to Bob's convenience store on Kelley. The police were aware of his description from the Crosstown and saw him enter Bob's and approach the clerk. As soon as he saw them coming he took off on foot and was brought down at the Jutras Post. He was taken away in the wagon and booked, footage of the robbery at the Crosstown was obtained.

2 major accidents were reported later on in the night, one on Brown Ave and one on the exit 6 off ramp on 293 North. The Brown Ave was downgraded as a non-serious accident. The accident on the off-ramp sent two people to the hospital. Another accident occurred shortly after on Spring/Canal where a woman and her 5 year old were sent to the hospital. The woman who had been rear ended had neck pain, her 5 year was just brought for observation. One driver of the other car hit the windshield.

An assault happened on Conant Street, the suspect hit a woman and her child in the head and then took off. He had just gotten out of prison and the woman said that the best way to describe his appearance was that he looked like Peter Griffin. Peter Griffin was subsequently caught and arrested.

Phew! A lot has happened in the last few days. Kudos to you if you actually read all of that.

I hope the page is interesting and that more followers join!
