***Former SNHU Official Says He Stole Over $1 Million***

Raymond Prouty, who was the former budget director for SNHU, has stated that over the course of 14 years he had stolen $1 million from the college. He pleaded guilty today in court. He had worked at the school for over 34 years.

Officials noticed something was up when there was an extra scholarship in the athletic department's budget. They found that it was not an authorized scholarship and had been given to Prouty's niece at the time. After that incident they looked through all of the books and records and found out just how much had been stolen from the university.

The investigators had found a checking account that no one knew about and also found that he at one time had created a company name and said that funds were going to this company for hiring officials for sporting events. All of that money was instead going into his pocket.

On top of the money that Prouty had stolen from the university, he had also taken $95,000 from the Hooksett Kiwanis Club. He was their treasurer. He then had the school reimburse the club. They totaled the amount that he had stolen at $1.15 million and Prouty said that he didn't know where all of the money had been spent.

During sentencing on Tuesday Prouty was ordered to pay back all of the money that he had stolen ($100,000 per year until it was paid off) and is also sentenced to 7.5 to 15 years in prison. If he should fail to pay the money back to the school an addition 7.5 to 15 year sentence will be served.
