***$11k in Heroin Found in Manchester Apartment***

Police were called to a Union Street apartment for an assault/domestic violence issue on Friday. The woman told them that her boyfriend had hit her, knocked her off of the bed and onto her 2 year old child.

While the police were talking to her about the incident they noticed some drug related items in plain sight around the apartment. They also noticed that the doors were heavily fortified. They arrested the boyfriend, 34 year old Jeffrey Hayes and obtained a search warrant for the apartment.

When they went through the apartment they found 119 grams of heroin in packaging that is known on the street as "fingers". The estimated street value of the heroin was $11,000. They also found other drug packing materials, two digital scales, and four tablets of Clonazepam.

Hayes was charged with criminal threatening, endangering the welfare of the child, four counts of simple assault, and criminal mischief. Drug related charges are expected to follow.

Police in Manchester have been fighting a tough battle with heroin in the city for quite some time but it seems to be getting worse and worse as the days go by. More overdose calls come in on the scanner every day, and more people are being arrested for possession or intent to sell such as this guy. While many commend the MPD for their bust of 30 people a few weeks ago, there are still so many others in this city that are dealing and shooting up. It is an uphill battle.
