If You Have Never Been Here, You Must Check It Out!!

I stopped in to Maggie's for dinner last night. Maggie's is located on the corner of Elm and Stark. It gets it's name from a friend of the owner. You may remember her, she was one of the stars of the Dartmouth Hitchcock "Roar" video. Her name was Maggie Philbrook. She was diagnosed with a rare soft tissue cancer just before her 13th birthday. Shortly before her 14th birthday she lost her battle with cancer. Maggie's was named in her memory.

When you walk in to Maggie's you will find tables to sit at with your family or you can have a seat at the bar.

There is a specials board at the front that lets you know what great specials they are running that day. I chose to sit at the bar as opposed to a table. As soon as I sat down Don, who is the general manager of Maggie's, came right over, greeted me, and asked what I would like to drink. He brought me a menu and gave me time to peruse it, thinking about which delicious dish I was about to eat.

The menu has a little something for everyone. There is a kids section which will appeal to the younger crowd. The adult menu is varied and everyone sounds so good you will have a hard time deciding what it is that you would like to eat. There is a taco pizza which has salsa, hamburg, cheese, black olives, peppers and onions that sounded amazing. They also have a Big Mac pizza which is very hard to find at times.

For those who are looking for something a little fancier they also have a section of Italian foods and a local favorite, poutine.

I went with a steak bomb. As wonderful as the calzones and pizzas sounded I was definitely in the mood for a sub. The steak was cubed but it was small cubes so that it was easy to eat. All of the veggies on the steak bomb were fresh and not frozen. It had just the right amount of cheese on it. I chose fries to eat with the sub but made sure to ask about the seasoning that goes on the fries. I am allergic to garlic and Don was very accommodating and made sure that none of the garlic seasoning ended up on my fries which were fresh and cut so that some still had the potato skin on them (which honestly is the only way to eat fries).

As I was eating I was given refills on my drink without having to ask. There were two televisions hanging over the bar. One was showing sports and another was showing the local news at the request of a patron. I got into conversations with some of the other patrons at the bar over some of the news stories that came up. They were all very friendly.

There were a few regulars that came into the restaurant. One of them happened to be Peter White from Manchsterdam, a show that is on channel 23 in Manchester. He and his significant other were a lot of fun to talk to. I ended up having so much fun talking to the people I had never met before at the bar I didn't even realize that I was late for the Monarchs game (which you all know is usually a big deal for me!). I didn't care because I was having too much fun enjoying the food and the conversation.

The prices were great, right in line if not cheaper than comparable food at other locations around the city. The location of the restaurant (Elm and Stark) was a quick walk right over to the Verizon making it a great place to grab a quick dinner before the Monarchs game!

I would absolutely recommend Maggie's for lunch or dinner. They are also open for breakfast and I cannot wait to go try it out. This is a restaurant I will be back to again and again.

Visit Maggie's on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/maggiesonelm where they list the specials that you can find at the restaurant for the day. You can also visit www.maggiesonelm.com and order online for pick up!
