What is This Page Really All About?

Why do you sit with the scanner on all day? Don't you have a job? What is the point of doing this? Aren't you endangering the police, fire, and EMS?

These are questions that I am asked on a regular basis. Since we have grown considerably in just the 9 and a half months that this page has been around I figured now is a great time to tell you all a bit about this page and why I do this.

First off, welcome everyone!! I am overwhelmed at the amount of people that follow this page. We are all a great community of people with one goal in mind - Keep Manchester safe. We watch every day as the police officers, firefighters, and EMS battle drugs, death, violence, and crime. We watch them helping those in need and making sure that the streets are as safe as they can get them. The majority of the statuses that are posted can be pretty serious but every now and then we have some laughs (Remember the cow suit incident??)

So to answer your questions...here we go...

1. Why do you sit with the scanner on all day? - Well..I don't suppose I could post the updates if I weren't listening to it.. :)

2. Don't you have a job? - In fact, I do! I have a great full time job, a part time job, and I own my own photography company. I have the ability to work from home for both my full and part time job and this allows me to listen to the scanner and take a lunch break when there is something interesting to photograph.

3. What is the point of doing this? - Well, I can't speak for everyone but I know that when I hear a siren in the city, I am curious. Curiosity is human nature. I like the fact that we can listen to the scanners and gain knowledge about that which we are curious about. Some cannot access the scanner and that is where the updates come in handy. I also do this to warn people of traffic spots to avoid in case of an accident or a major crime incident. I post lost dogs and cats to help people find them. I post community events that the public may not hear about otherwise. I help businesses advertise to a large audience. I let people know about the crime that may be in their area so that they can stay vigilant.

4. Aren't you endangering police, fire, and EMS? - This has been discussed many times but I still am asked this question frequently and do not mind answering. Simply put if this were endangering anyone, the page would have been shut down at this point. I have been at this for almost a year now. An EMS supervisor told me that he loved the page and that if anyone hassled me about it at a scene to let him know. Multiple firefighters have stated that they like the page and some even give me some great poses for photos when I am at a scene. (Corey, I am talking about you! :) ) The PD also know about this page. If any of them directly had a concern I would certainly address the situation in a courteous and professional manner. In the event that there is something happening such as a pursuit, major crime event, or something that could be a dangerous situation I will wait to post until I have heard that PD are on the scene. I want to make sure that our responders are safe as much as all of you do!

If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to ask me! I will try my best to answer anything that you ask.

Thank you all for making this community what it is and I hope we continue for a long time to come!
